Topic: Backup/Emergency Sumps

Anyone using water activated sump pump in the field or is everyone sticking with the tried and true marine battery for backup?

Re: Backup/Emergency Sumps

I'm sticking to battery back up pumps. The 1 gallon of water to pump 2 gallons is a complete waste of water and it just adds to the output you are dumping somewhere. Costwise by the time you add in the required backflow prevention for a water powered pump it costs the same as a battery powered for installation. Do you have a lot of well pump systems in your service area? We do!

The Zoeller Aquanot is a nice unit and the output will closely match the output of the Zoeller M-53 main pump which is something the water powered pump cannot even dream of doing.

In a home where the water flow is pretty much a guaranteed flood of a finished basement during a power failure, I like to think about systems in addition to the battery powered backup pump such as alternating duplex pumps and standby generators.

Re: Backup/Emergency Sumps

I have installed  decent amount of water powered backup sump pumps. I have always installed the Zohler. The thing I don't like about it is that it's plastic, plus you have to install the RPZ.

We haven't had any problems with any that we have installed but I have heard some stories. I do know that I saw quite a few flooded basements this year after some rain storms. A few of these clients had a backup and battery backup. The battery backup doesn't do you any good if you don't check it.

This pump is very useful to pull the water from earth. Most of the people use this pump to pull the water. I installed same pump at my home.
