Topic: Water Pressure Question

I have a Jet Pump and it is cutting in at 30psi and off at 50psi.  This is fine because that is what the pressure switch is set at.  The problem is that i have a Pressure gauge hooked up after the water pressure tank and it is reading 10psi less than the Gauge above the pump.  i pressurized the tank to the proper setting (28psi).  Where am i losing pressure? When i first checked the Water pressure tank when i drained the system it read 10psi, and i filled it to 28psi.  is my pressure tank busted?

Re: Water Pressure Question

Sounds like you did the right thing with the tank.  What brand it is?  Model #?

The gauges I sell and most Well Drillers/Pump guys sell are extremely cheap and aren't expected to be super accurate or to last very long.  So one or both of your gauges are probably not on the money.  The pressure in your system will be the same throughout once water movement stops.  The fact that you have a 30/50 switch and that gauge is reading 30/50, I would say the downstream gauge is ten pounds off.

Re: Water Pressure Question

I just changed the gauge that follows the water pressure tank.  I replaced it with one from Home Depot.  I will double check it when i get home.   I was thinking there may be a block from the well to the water tank causing a drop in the pressure.  Is that possible?

Re: Water Pressure Question

The only time a pressure drop is possible is when your using water.  When the water is static in the pipes, it equalizes.  That is if it's level.  Pipe going up will have less pressure (hardly noticeable) and going down less pressure.  HD gauges are even cheaper than the junkie ones I sell.
