If the bladder in that tank is still good and not torn, the air should should stay in the tank above the bladder.  If after you drain the tank and is still feels like it has water in it, the tank is bad and should be replaced (with a better brand).  After draining, use a tire gauge to see if there is any pressure in the tank.

It depends on what you call a Conditioner.  That word in my opinion means a tank with some softening media, some carbon, some PH increaser and who knows what else.  They try to do several things with one unit.  Now you have roughly 1/4 the capacity you should have had.  A water softener does just that, softens water by removing calcium and magnesium.  Many salesmen say softeners do a great job of removing iron.  I disagree.

The first thing to do is get your water tested for the most common things such as hardness, iron, manganese and get the PH.  Sulphur is another thing you could have with well water along with the iron and manganese.  The things you might find in City water are hardness, chlorine, ammonia and fluoride.  Carbon can take care of the chlorine, but it takes a more expensive media to get the other three.

I have well water with very little iron, about 15 grains of hardness and some sulphur.  I remove the sulphur with an air pump and a galvanized tank.  The hardness is removed with a softener.  I wouldn't be without the softener, I'm spoiled.  I don't need the sulphur smell either.  The little bit of iron I have is removed by the carbon filter and oxidized with the air.

I'm thinking if you were to raise the float high enough, it's possible the water won't flow in as fast or might even seek it's normal level and keep the pump from coming on at all.  That could save a lot of electricity and wear and tear on the pump.

Give me the link to your site and I'll list it on my Forum.  Most of the guys there are Well Drillers, but enjoy hanging out on Plumber Forums too.

It's so Plumber friendly,  even Redwood posts there sometimes :-)

Whew, cause I couldn't remember doing that.  I really thought I had lost it for good this time.

Thanks...

OK, now I get it.  I should probably go delete that post then.  Or make it into an ad of some kind.

Glad to hear your busy, you must be making some decent money working all those hours.  I can't remember the last time we have been busy.  It's pretty dead here.

I have been coming here every day and nothings going on.  So I posted in the Michigan Forum (my old stomping ground) then I get this top and bottom of the post:   Sorry! no permission to post a reply

I don't know what that's about.

bob...

Me neither, but we will get through it nevertheless!

In the top right of this Forum, mine says Unsubscribe.  But I didn't get notification of this last post.  The Stay subscribed to this topic is checked also.

No, not the spam filter.  I check it every day after doing all my emails.  There is a bunch of stuff in there but not notifications.

How do you turn on Forum subscriptions?  I couldn't find any way to do so.

By the way, I got notified of this one by email.

I have seven subscriptions for Topic, but none for Forum.  I would like to be notified of all posts which in Snitz is Forum.  You get notified of all posts regardless of who does them or what Forum they are in.

I think we have lost Paul.

I looked and it's checked.  But I'm still not getting any notifications.  I'll check my email address, maybe I screwed that up.
Nope, that ain't it.

Redwood, I'm not getting notifications of posts.  I know I'm supposed to push a button somewhere, but not sure where.

Your going to have to help me out here with the "Fan Center" thing.  I have no idea what that is.  You could be talking about a double pole relay, but you said that's what you replaced the Fan Center with, so I'm confused.

Why is the pump on a pressure switch and tank in the first place? Do you also use this well for your home?

You said that you replaced the Fan Center with a double pole relay and it's blowing the fuse in your sprinkler controller.  Maybe the relay you are using is pulling too much current for the controller to handle.

There are better ways to keep the pump from cycling.  Is it a jet pump or a submersible?

So that's where your hiding it.  I started going down through them then saw the 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9  etc at the bottom.  I thought maybe you had a count.

Ok, I'm a little slow.

The only things that have changed much is motors going from standard to variable speed.  I wasn't quick to jump on that one because of the cost.  I have one that Myers gave me to try out.  It works pretty darned good.

The other thing is the pool pumps.  They are going to two speed to save electricity I guess.  This means you will need some kind of controller to switch it from low to high when needed.  I'm not sure you can make a vacuum work on the low speed.  I like the electric savings part of it, but the cost for a new unit has about tripled.  That coupled with troubleshooting these things.  I'll probably have to take a three year course on how to repair them.

They haven't really effected me in any way, but I do with they would just go away.

Kind of like Drill Rigs.  I prefer the old method (Cable Tool) over Rotary.  I think I liked Win XP better than Win 7 and I know I liked floppy discs better than CD's other than their storage capacity.

Seems like we are just getting lazier and fatter all the time.

I probably haven't drilled more than 10 wells since I moved to Florida 30 years ago.  Until about a year ago, we would subcontract drilling out to other contractors then we would install the pumping equipment.  I have had a couple of very good drillers in the past, but in the last ten years, I have had nothing but problems and gave it up completely.  The good drillers mostly used Cable Tool Rigs which are rapidly going out of style.  The rigs used today are Rotaries.  Cable tool beat the casing into the ground and rotaries make a hole then just push the casing down.  After pushing the casing down, you are supposed to fill the annular space around the casing with cement, but I question how well that is done by some drillers.

Thanks Redwood, my own house.  That's cool.

Hey, how many different How-To's do you have?  Is there a way to do a search for a topic?

Hey thanks; I'll check it out.  I know what you mean by working two jobs.  It's the only way to make ends meet these days.

It looks like its starting to take off.  With a few more guys finding it, more guys will follow.  I'll put the word out on my Forum.

Redwood, I didn't know you had it up and running.  Nice job man.  I saw Phishfood's signature had changed and checked it out.  Pretty cool.   If you don't mind, I'll lurk around and see if I can find something to post about.
